Let us consider the lowly Lamprey Eel – pioneering invader species of the Great Lakes, making his debut in the mid 20th C. Denizens of the region invoke his name in fear and disgust, as he is an aquatic vampire, silently and stealthily attaching his razor sucker "disc" mouth to larger fisher (trout/salmon/etc) and draining them of their life fluids gradually. The effect of this assault on apex predators has rearranged the biology of the Great Lakes forever. Very very few have ever actually SEEN one – and maybe that's a good thing.

He commands respect as well, being one of the oldest organisms on this planet; the ultimate survivor ... and currently weathering relentless efforts to poison him into oblivion. Hail - Mighty Lamprey. I have a feeling you'll still be lurking in the murky, dark depths of the Great Lakes long after the human species is gone. This music is for you ... not that you give a damn : )
